The Closers
  by Michael Connelly
The Diva Review:

Harry Bosch is back with the LAPD! Thank God! Although I did really enjoy Bosch's retirement and his character growth, I think the strength of this series lies in Bosch's sometimes adversarial, but always interesting relationship with the LAPD. The Closers does not disappoint. It is a standard Harry Bosch story, with all of the angst that goes along with it, that opens the door for many more interesting cases to come. Cold cases seem to be very in vogue right now so these will fit right in. Connelly, like Jonathan Kellerman and Robert Crais, is a master of the red herring. The Closers will really have you guessing up to the end.

The only thing that bugged me was the way Kizman Rider speaks. I'm not sure why, but it does. Every time she says something to Harry, she uses his name. Who does that in normal speech? She is Harry's foil, but I would really like to see a little more development in her character. I feel that I know Jerry Edgar much better and he got just as much page time in the earlier books as she did. Why is she so flat? And boring? And unlikeable?

In this latest installment of the Harry Bosch series, Harry and Kiz go back to 1988 to solve the abduction and murder of a young girl. Naturally, clues are sparse, suspects are dicey and there is a little bit of scandal thrown in for good measure. Because this is Bosch's first case since his retirement, he's a little apprehensive and there are some mistakes and miscalculations along the way, but he pulls it out of the fire in the end. Some people are just born to be detectives.

I really like Michael Connelly. Some of his books are brilliant. Like The Poet. He never veers too far from his comfort zone and we pretty much get what we expect – which is why we buy his books!
