The Diva Review:

There has always been a mystique surrounding club life. The night scene is a world of its own. Even as a participant at one point, I never really got over the glamour of it. Of course, that was a long time ago. For some, part of the intrigue is the precariousness of it all. Mix drugs, alcohol, gigantic personalities, mental illness, a relentless beat, sex and darkness, and you get a highly volatile nightly drama.

Clubland: The Fabulous Rise and Murderous Fall of Club Culture tells the true story of how it all went terribly wrong in the most glamorous clubs of the most glamorous city. Frank Owen's telling of the story, with almost unprecedented access to the mix of players, is truly a page turner. I love Frank Owen. He tells such a great story. His experience as a journalist for the Village Voice gives him a unique perspective on what happened mainly because he followed the story from the beginning. Plus, he's a fantastic writer.

Poor judgment on pretty much everyone's part, unbridled greed, bad decisions, criminals disguised as businessmen and of course rampant and excessive drug use, combine to give us a story that one might think is stranger than fiction. But no. It happened. Someone is dead and someone else is in jail.

Owen serves as tour guide through this complicated true story and in my opinion is the best in the business.
