Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince
  by J.K. Rowling
The Diva Review:

Oh, Harry Potter, why are you so delicious? In the sixth book in the Harry Potter series, J.K. Rowling does not disappoint. I might go so far as to say that it's her best one yet! The brilliance of this book is in the way Rowling handles the raging hormones and adolescent angst of her characters while not cheapening them by changing who they are. Puberty-ridden Harry, Ron and Herminone struggle with their personal emotional roller coasters against a backdrop of twists and turns, shocks and disappointments, and incredibly inventive subplots that make this series so much fun to read.

As the series has progressed, the books have gotten progressively darker. There's no denying it. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince continues in that vein. I actually cried a little at the end myself. It almost goes without saying that the quality of the writing is superb. Though a huge book, it goes fast. Everyone is there: Hagrid and Fang, the entire Weasly family, the Dursleys, Draco Malfoy, the boy you love to hate, the incomparable staff of Hogwarts, complete with a new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher and members of the Order of the Phoenix. And Lord Voldemort? Well, you'll see him or you won't.

Who is the Half-Blood Prince? As you know, there are no spoilers here, but I will admit that I was surprised and a little disappointed. I'm not sure it makes sense entirely but I'll leave it to Rowling to sort out later. I'm sure she has her reasons, which, quite honestly were not really explained. I feel like the last quarter of the book left more questions unanswered than answered. Fortunately, Rowling left it wide open for an entirely new set of adventures.

With most writers, I would definitely ding them for the rushed ending. But I have a lot of faith in Rowling. My only plea to her: keep writing them and keep making them long!!!
