The Overlook
  by Michael Connelly
The Diva Review:

The Overlook is the 13th Harry Bosch novel. It's a decent read. Not one of Connelly's best though. And I truly hate to admit that. It was originally published in novella form and then expanded and stitched together for a full length book. This makes it a little short and a little fast without a lot of the detail and character development that Connelly fans are used to. Myself included.

Here our beloved Bosch moves to the elite Homicide Special unit. He is called out in the middle of the night to the scene of a murdered physicist. Harry and his new partner, Iggy, find the body stuffed in the truck of a car on a Mulholland Drive overlook. It turns out that he has been working with Cesium, a radioactive material, which suddenly makes the case about national security. FBI agent, Rachel Walling, Bosch's ex shows up to take over the case. Naturally, this does not go well.

So we follow Bosch down a fairly predictable path of angering people, stepping on toes, almost losing his job, etc. He seems particularly arrogant and someone dense in this one. The red herrings are pretty obvious and Harry, of all people, should have been able to put it all together sooner, but it's still a fun read.

This is by no means the best Harry Bosch book. But it's not terrible. It's a good commuter read, not a settle-in-for-the-night read.
