bestselling author
Hollywood Station
  by Joseph Wambaugh
The Diva Review:

I have to be honest. When I first picked this book up, I wasn't sure if I would like it. Even though Joseph Wambaugh is a New York Times bestselling author and a highly accomplished writer, I think it's because I am so used to the Connelly, Crais, Kellerman version of Hollywood cop books. It started a little slow for me, but I ended up really enjoying it. It was actually kind of heartwarming at the end.

Wambaugh clearly knows how police think - having been one for many years. Peppered with the kind of craziness that only Hollywood can provide, the cops we meet are as quirky as the perps. Apparently the stories are culled from real experiences on the streets of Hollywood. The way Wambaugh tells them makes them more funny than horrifying. And trust me on this, Hollywood is pretty horrifying.

Hollywood Station is a complicated tapestry that ties together a jewelry store robbery, a mob-owned Russian nightclub, and two meth-addicts trying to scam enough dough to support their lifestyle. Its part comedy of errors, part heists and part police drama. It's told in a series of vignettes that eventually come together in a very satisfying ending.

This book is actually very funny, and very disturbing and very engrossing. Loved it.
