The Diva Review:
Let's see.. 1) grisly deaths 2) large canine type wounds 3) around the last couple of full moons. Hmmmmm, anyone have any ideas? Chicago's Special Investigations Detective Karrin Murphy suspects what all of us readers would suspect but she needs the local Wizard detective Harry Dresden to help with the details.
So, you guessed it, Dresden has to deal with werewolves in this novel. Not just one werewolf, not just a pack of werewolves but several different types of werewolf. In Mr. Butcher's well thought-out world there are several forms of werewolf and you get to meet some of them. I won't tell you what the different types are, that is the job of Bob, Dresden's assistant and resident skull. Dresden and the police have their hands full with this case since they don't know who to trust including each other.
As promised, I tackled the second book in the Dresden Files series. After a disappointing start to the series, I was anxious to see how this one would fair. To be honest, I had been told good things about the series by a couple of people and thought I might have had too high expectations for the first one. So I approached this one with no real expectations.
At the end of Storm Front I felt that Karrin Murphy completely over-reacted and did not even give Dresden a chance to explain and they are supposed to be friends. Well, her character is not much better in this novel which is disappointing because she seems very smart yet jumps to totally unreasonable conclusions. I found Dresden a bit more humorous this novel, but he is still not very likable. The Dresden world is rich and fresh and I could see how it would be possible to have lots of things to write about.
Although I think Fool Moon is a better book then the previous effort, I still can't give it a recommendation. With so many other great novels out there, I wouldn't suggest reading this average novel (three stars) unless there is some special reason (like you loved the series) which I have not seen. As for the rest of the series, I doubt if I will be reading them unless a new reason surfaces (like a threat from The Diva).
